The Informatics and Social Development Research Institute (IDI) is a not-for-profit company, established in Ireland, with the mission of furthering the global development of both information and communications technologies, and researching their socio-economic impact.
Our current research project
Along with the University of
Nottingham (UK), we are part of the GGPhi
project funded by the Galileo Joint
Undertaking (GJU). The project is led by the UK Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA)
Institute of Satellite Navigation
at the University of Leeds, UK. The project aims to build a Low-Cost, Low-Power
Galileo/GPS Carrier Phase Positioning System for applications such as landslide
monitoring in remote regions.
The first Trinet Project

In 1999 the IDI secured European Union Commission backing for a communications network project, entitled the Trinet Project, targeted at developing countries in Africa.
The contract was awarded under the INCO-DC programme, which promotes scientific and technological co-operation with developing countries.
Please see the Welcome page for a fuller description of
our proposed next project, TRINET-2.
We are seeking to contact other
interested
parties in order to prepare proposals for a continuation of TRINET under Framework Programme 6, the next EU Research & Development programme starting end-2002 and running for four years.
In
order to illustrate the strength and breadth of the management team of
the Informatics Development Institute, coordinating partner, we provide
